Soybean throwing festival
An ageold japanese tradition has been taken to new heights in tokyo.
'Mamemaki' is the springtime festival held on the eve of the spring equinox during which participants throw roasted soybeans to ward off ogres.
This year more than 800 people gathered in the tokyo tower armed with goggles and two kilograms of soybeans to hurl at imaginary ogres and demons for the duration of the twohour event.
'I'm heated up.It's so much fun to throw something this hard, which rarely happens in my daily life, ' 24yearold participant arisa hasebe told reuters.
Ogres are believed to enjoy causing mischief and throwing one of their most hated foods, the soybean, keeps them at bay.
