Legend of Zelda Fan Rumors were "Frustrating" according to Donkey Kong Game Developers When Eric Kozlowsky was hired by Retro Studios, it resulted in reports about the Retro Studios team in the process of developing an entirely new Zelda game.

The artist was previously a part of with PlayStation's Uncharted series however, and due to reasons that are not clear, this caused fans to draw an association. However, Kozlowsky and Retro Studios were actually working on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze which was released in late 2015. When the game's official unveiling took place on the market, many Zelda fans were unhappy with it, as they were expecting something else. In a new interview with an interview on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, Kozlowsky exposed the source of the rumor that caused discontent for the development team.

"Sometimes it's frustrating because it leads to false expectations. This was the case when we first announced Tropical Freeze. Everyone was thinking 'they're working on the next Zelda game, they're working on something like a Zelda game' however, they were like 'nope!. And we announced Tropical Freeze and it looks amazing and gorgeous but then people go "oh, it's another Donkey Kong.'

And then you know there are people slamming it on Neogaf , or whatnot, and you're like 'oh it's because everyone thought we were playing a Zelda game. Then it's like no, it's not what we do.' So yeah it's a bit both and sometimes we get a laugh out of the absurdity, and at other times it can get annoying when it gets a longer," said Kozlowsky.

Kozlowsky's statements are an interesting perspective on how rumors circulate and the way that it can negatively impact a game's reception. While Tropical Freeze might not have been the game fans hoped to hear about, it received strong critical appreciation upon its release.
